Hunting and gathering for food, and settled down to farm their crops,
So did ants in the dense forests of Colombia and Peru
Learned to settle, not to forage, but to do what humans do,
And to farm a special fungus in the safety of their nests,
And be thus supplied with food that they've learned to like best.
And what's more, this special fungus cannot grow just anywhere,
But depends on its existence on the ants' dedicated care.
And just like our own fungi that exist in our woods,
That some people find delicious, while the others, not so good,
The ants' fungus that they consume with great pleasure and great zest,
Other ants, when they try it, find impossible to digest.
So it is great that in the world such surprising facts we can
Find, and parallels in Nature that so closely mirror Man...
