And my heart is going wild:
What an overwhelming feeling!
My granddaughter is with child!
I remember her acumen,
Picking berries in the wood.
Now she is a strong young woman,
Quite prepared for motherhood.
Will the new baby inherit
Mom’s dry wit, father’s deep voice?
Will it sadness bravely bear it,
And at happy news rejoice?
Owing to my advanced age,
I cannot realistically hope,
In the child’s life to engage
And with its adversities to cope,
But I’ll enjoy the great sensation
New life, emerging, to behold,
And see a brand-new generation
In a – hopefully – better world...
