Sends us energy from afar,
But unlike our feeble act,
From atoms power to extract,
It performs the clever feat
Atoms to fuse, and not to split.
It would indeed be very great
If the sun's scheme we'd imitate:
We could prevent events so vile,
As Chernobyl or Japan's Isle.
In fusion there's no abomination
Like fission's dangerous radiation,
When we suffer perils grave
If our atoms misbehave.
So why not learn to match sun's fusion,
And avoid all the confusion?
Because it means it might then force us
To commit really vast resources,
Many millions, even more,
And then how could we fund our wars?
We must avoid easier solutions,
Refuse to have our atoms burn us,
Commit research to fathom fusion
In a more benign atomic furnace.
