It's easy to quickly forget and dismiss
The reasons why people (and elephants) kiss.
English psychologists, in Oxford, that is,
Set out to determine why two people kiss,
They interviewed subjects and made a long list,
And analyzed why those they interviewed, kissed.
They found teen-age romance, and/or marital bliss
Are often the cause of a passionate kiss.
It's quite universal, 'mong English or Swiss
To start a relationship with a warm kiss.
And yet other reasons, as some folks insist,
Caused them to participate in a long kiss:
Sometimes it's for testing, if feelings persist
To continue a bond between those who have kissed,
And sometimes a signal that passions increased,
Is a sudden and unplanned, but quite tender kiss...
And then, sometimes, it still a great mystery is,
What prompts two strangers to suddenly kiss...
And perhaps there are reasons the scientists missed
In their investigations why two people kiss...
