Quite a few decades ago,
It never ceased folks to amaze, for
Its singlewavelength eerie glow.
Now the new optogenetics
Uses lasers to map brains,
And with a zeal that's quite frenetic
Neurons turn “on” and “off” again.
In the past, some keen observers
Tried in vain the answer yield,
Why some rodents got so nervous
In a weak microwave field?
Now, perhaps, new science did it,
When the laser found new fame,
Microwaves, too weak to heat it,
May affect a mammal's brain!...
Humble fruit flies, or yet mice,
Are now subject to light's dance,
In the noble enterprise
Neuroscience to advance...
