To discover, what's connected –
Like a child with a new toy
Obvious, or quite unexpected.
Sediment from a northern sea
Recently was analyzed,
And the result, 'twas plain to see,
Left biologists surprised:
How evolved complex cells
That ultimately led to us,
With their many organelles
And a membraneclad nucleus?
In the muck of Loki Nest
That is 2 billion years old,
Scientists, in their quest,
Seemed to find a ghost of old:
DNA could clearly tell,
Though its owner was extinct,
To what we know are modern cells
They found what was the missing link.
And had signs of mobility.
And of membranes, as it should,
And so, with incredulity.
New theories were construed.
Thus does science forward stride.
As new knowledge is absorbed,
Old concepts are flung aside,
And new truths come to the fore...
