That surely is one of science's best:
A team of scientists, world wide,
Worked diligently, side by side,
A fish's genome to explore
That washed up on a distant shore.
It wasn't just another fish
That one could find in a meal's dish:
It was a fossil fish that seemed
To have fins that resembled limbs.
Some 50 million years ago
Its ancestors decided to forego
Life inside the ocean, and
Crawled out, to walk upon the sand.
The fish's genome is complex -
They could not tell the fish's sex,
But they think they found the genes
That into limbs transformed its fins.
So now that they the puzzle solved:
From this fish humankind evolved -
Perhaps this fact can help explain
Why seafood's thought good for the brain...
