Bijou the Kitten is just 6 months old
She's fast, and unstoppable, fearless and bold.
She thinks life is a game that brings pleasures untold,
She's convinced she's the ruler, the Queen of the World.
Except for her yellow eyes, Bijou is black,
Her tail and her whiskers, her front and her back,
She's curious, aggressive, and manners she lacks,
And every new object she quickly attacks.
The rules of gravity Bijou defies,
She leaps and she climbs exceedingly high,
She stands on her hind legs to reach for the sky,
And she looks at the world through her big yellow eyes.
So far, she's too small to face the hostile outdoors,
Yet her indoor confinement she greatly abhors.
She chases her toys around on the floor,
And watches the birds and the squirrels, and more.
It's hard to imagine that at some future date,
She'll have to succumb to inevitable fate,
When no longer she'll play, or jump, or yet prate,
But be an old cat, calm and sedate...
II.
When a kitten thinks life is a game,
Things are never quite the same:
A simple task: folding a sheet
Becomes a superhuman feat.
And simply putting on a shoe,
Becomes an act of derringdo.
If you wish to read a book,
You'd better find a quiet nook,
Away from lashing tail and paws,
Safe from teeth, and far from claws.
Yes, if you crave some peace and rest,
A kitten sometimes is a pest...
III.
Don't use logic with a cat
There is no point in doing that!
She knows no cause and no effect,
And cannot guess what to expect.
So – don't use logic with a cat...
Do not argue with a cat,
There's no sense in doing that:
She may learn what's right or wrong,
But her desires are too strong.
So, do not argue with a cat...
Make a cat behave, don't try,
She has no grasp of when and why,
She only lives for what is now,
And meets the future with a meow...
A cat you will not understand,
And her instincts comprehend.
Her reactions, and her speed,
Are too fast for us, indeed,
A cat you will not understand...
