Or change a fly's DNA,
To learn the development of the unborn,
Or discern Nature's ways,
But it's quite another, with humans to play,
And their heredity change,
And yet that's where we're heading, with our DNA,
In ways that are frightful and strange.
A new gene excising and changing technique
Has now been invented and used,
It's highly efficient, effective, and quick,
And open to easy abuse.
So, a group of biologists, greatly concerned,
Called for, on ethics reliance,
For a moratorium, 'til more will be learned,
In a paper that appeared in Science.
In the lands that was conquered, in ancient Rome,
They built aqueducts, to provide water,
Perhaps, when it concerns the human genome,
We should carefully weigh the matter:
Like in Rome, technology ought to be used for the good
Of the human race, and then,
We'll apply science only 'cause we should,
And not merely 'cause we can....
