There is suddenly a to-do:
The city fathers passed an act, as
Dictated by Hindu practice,
Forbidding the sale of beef,
And this caused in the town a tiff -
The merchants of beef and buffalo
Did not like the rule at all,
They went on strike and shut their stores,
And this caused confusion even more:
The zoo tigers were used to savor,
Fresh-killed beef and buffalo flavor,
Now their taste buds had to quicken.
At the smell of a mere chicken.
To the new meals they got used,
But their keepers were not amused,
Claiming that for their health, a diet
Of daily red meat was required.
So far, for better or for worse,
The problem has not run its course,
And I wonder, if the affair can
Turn the tigers vegetarian?...
