DACA’s end he announced with pleasure and with pride,
And of Obama’s program the end he did exhort,
Saying 800 “Dreamers” he was ready to deport.
Then came Trump’s surprise, a simple and short Tweet:
“Who really wanted to deport them, hardworking and sweet?”
And a deal with the Democrats quickly changed the mood:
The Dreamers would be allowed to stay in the U.S. for good.
The sudden change in policy astounded one and all:
Republicans in Congress never thought Trump would give up his “Wall.”
And with Democratic help the bill would surely pass,
Which left them quite perplexed, angry and harassed.
Some cynical observers were heard to state,
The deal’s goal was meant Sessions to humiliate,
Whom Trump once called an “idiot” and whom he heartily detests,
And whose early recusal he blames for Mueller’s quest.
But whatever is the outcome, if the agreement sticks,
Trump has found a brand-new way to play his politics,
And to him, the arrangement has particular appeal:
He has shown his detractors, he is “master of the deal.”
