Found objects tied to ancient Man,
Or, rather, not to Man at all
But to the Neanderthal.
In a Croatian dig, they found
Jewelry, all strewn around.
The objects, 130,000 years old,
Had ben fashioned not of gold,
Not of silver, not of jade:
From eagles' talons they were made.
Was it some ancient Cartier,
Where a prehistoric swain,
For his chosen lady fair
Some adornments could obtain?
Or, was it a holy place,
Where gods with gifts could be appeased,
To help, in for food the race,
Or to alleviate a disease?
One would likely not discern
What was the Neanderthals' concern.
But one can confidently state:
Jewelry modern Man predates!
