Now that Bannon is gone,
And Trump is alone,
And continues his blustering Twits,
Some men voice concern,
With reputations well earned,
That to govern he is unfit.
And while there are no signs
Trump intends to resign,
Or be forced out by some unnamed offense,
Some thoughtful gents,
Try to foresee events,
Are beginning to eye V.P. Pence.
There appears to be doubt
What Pence is about,
And what might be his political course,
They self-consciously say,
That, whatever his way,
Than Trump it can’t be possibly worse.
So, round the bend,
Will we witness the end
Of our system, though presently stressed,
Or, do we behold,
And watch to unfold,
Hegelian synthesis expressed?
C-in-C
We witnessed an event quite extraordinary:
Political statements by the Military.
Of all the Services, the top commanders
Refused to Trump’s nonsense to pander.
And voiced their dismay, disappointment and grief
Taking issue with the views of the Commander in Chief.
They always White Supremacy in their ranks rejected,
Still, their response was by all unexpected.
This condemnation by the highest in rank,
Shows the depth to which Trump’s prestige sank,
And his isolation in his twitter rants
That division and hatred in the land advance.
With such strong, universal, and public rebuke,
Will they obey, if he orders to nuke?
The Goal: Coal
Trump is suspicious of science,
And thus he has shown his defiance:
By regulations reject
That the environment seek to protect.
He made it his business, the goal
Of restoring dependence on coal,
And demonstrate just where his heart is,
And, incidentally, how he clever and smart is.
His statements explain and exult
That this he expects to result
In thousands of jobs’ restoration
In impoverished parts of the nation.
But China is joining the fray,
Automation stands in his way,
And it looks like he’s missing the chance
America’s skills to advance.
Rejoice!
With Trump as a topic, it’s hard to find good news,
But the latest information we will count as a “plus:”
I will raise a cheer, and a happy word will put in--
We’re rid, finally, of Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s Rasputin!
State of Affairs
Trump’s erratic frequent Twitters
Give some anxious folks the jitters,
His demeanor and his threats
Causes them to get upset.
His proposed legislation
To remove most regulations
Will certainly great harm create
And result in damage great.
Citizens cannot help assuming
That disaster may be looming,
And that a nasty, evil trail
In our lifetime will prevail,
And with all that rough- and- tumble
Into war we may yet stumble.
So we attempt to somehow cope,
And for peace and quiet hope.
Meanwhile, optimism we must gather,
That in 2018 we will, rather,
Gain in Congress many votes
For a good Trump antidote.
